This work offers buyers, sellers, and collectors an easy-to-use, one-volume source of information for these bird and quadruped prints of John James Audubon. It contains obscure references, where the author, Bill Steiner, has surveyed the contemporary market-place. Addressing one of the more complex aspects of print collection, the text clarifies the task of distinguishing the octavio prints of the successive editions of Audubon's Birds of America (1840-1871) and Quadrupeds of North America (1849-1870). It describes the publication histories of each edition since the first, offers information about printers, engravers, and subscribers, and provides practical information on price histories, accessibility, and preservation.
BILL STEINER is a field ecologist and expert bird-watcher who has compiled one of the most significant private collections of Audubon prints in the United States. An accomplished entomologist, herpetologist, and horticulturist, he holds degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. From 1994 to 1996 Steiner worked with the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games as the environmental chief for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Steiner lives in Lithonia, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.
Price makes it even better. As a collector and publisher of Audubon prints, I am finding Bill Steiner's fresh and realistic approach to Audubon collecting quite refreshing. That brought desperation that led to revelation. Some of the hymns are Amazing Grace, Rock of Ages and When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, among other beautiful, timeless hymns.
The book comes with a free 24 track CD of the hymns being performed by Ray Walker of the Jordanaires and other artists. Unfortunately, this isn't it. Things are not rosy out there. While they do include a number of strum patterns at the end of the book, they do not show strum patterns for each song -- you're left to figure it out on your own.
I'd hope that the CD would make that easier but the other instruments sometimes make it hard to hear the guitar part. I've had students who never show interest in reading beg for the titles in this series. I could actually feel the superheated air and smell the toxic gases coming off
