Long ago before there were birds, people, or even words, a not-so-typical dragon and an unusual whale embark on a glorious adventure to explore universes and find new worlds. One day, the two friends come across ancient Earth- unexplored, uninhabited, and covered entirely in water. The dragon and whale can hardly believe their luck. What a gift to discover a planet just born! Filled with delight at their finding, the dragon and whale decide to play a game to see who can invent the most extraordinary creatures to fill the sea. Motivated and inspired by one another's imaginative abilities, these two friends create wondrous starfish, sea turtles, manta rays, and more- until a brilliant idea about teamwork changes everything. Written in rhythmic verse, this charming children's tale shares an enlightening message designed to stimulate the imagination, inspire compassion, and encourage the value of cooperation.
The "Demon Wars" trilogy includes "The Demon Awakens", "The Demon Spirit", and "The Demon Apostle". They wanted to be recognized as good warriors when merited and wanted no special treatment because they were women. When I made my purchase, there was an additional review that I commented on (asking about the legal history) that was then deleted. The comments are so refreshing that it is a delight to reread them (for example, Peter Schickele: "John Cage was a poet and a philosopher disguised as a composer who taught the world that things are not what they seem, especially pianos.") The series of chess pictures is in itself worth the price of the book, and the back matter offers brief informative bios of the contributors, plus additional photos. This is a fascinating read. I bought this book for a graduate course I'm taking right now. Owing to the informal discourse, there is no dense theorem-proof-theorem- division of the material. Bob Schwartz is back with a followup to his first book
